Biography:

Alysse Kathleen McCanna was born and raised in the rural Midwest.  She graduated from Smith College in 2007 with a degree in Art History.

Alysse’s poetry has appeared in Eleventh Muse, Poesia, The Comstock Review, Porcupine, Labrys and The Wisconsin Academy Review.  In 2003, Alysse won 2nd place in the Harlan O. Roberson poetry contest from the Wisconsin Center of Academically Talented Youth.  She was a contest finalist for the 2004 Muriel Craft Bailey Memorial Award, and in 2007 Alysse was awarded the Elizabeth Babcock Poetry Prize from Smith College.

Alysse is currently working on biographical poems about the life of Henri Matisse, and is immensely enjoying the combination of her two passions: art & poetry.  She lives in Colorado Springs with her husband, and has her eye on a cabin in the mountains.
