On a Photo of Anne Sexton

Mod print
sleeveless dress,

                                    elbows angling

                                                bracelets bangling

                                                            cigarette dangling

pipe-cleaner leg
twined
round
and round
the other,

like a whooping crane--

as if
your laughing skeleton
will soon
flap its way
out of
that
brown
earth-bound chair

sometimes

I lay my head
on your naked,
bone-caged
heart

and listen to the marrow
run wild
