Biography

Keira Deer (she/her) is a poet hailing from Southern California, now based in Boulder. She received her BFA in Creative Writing from Chapman University and is pursuing her MFA in Creative Writing (specialization in poetry) at CU Boulder, where she also teaches creative writing for undergraduate students.

Her poetry varies between history-based pieces, which excavate and honor the stories of minorities—particularly Asian-Americans and immigrants, in exploration of her own lineage—and personal works which explore more guarded subjects of young womanhood, biraciality, religious unknowns, processes of grief, and voicelessness. She was the winner of the 2025 Dan Veach Prize for Younger Poets through the Atlanta Review, and her work has been published or is forthcoming in Trace Fossils Review, Scapegoat Review, The Good Life Review, and Hawai’i Pacific Review, among others.
