Biography:

William Notter is the author of Holding Everything Down, winner of the 2008 Crab Orchard Series in Poetry First Book Award.  His poems have appeared in journals including Alaska Quarterly Review, AGNI Online, Ascent, The Chattahoochee Review, Connecticut Review, Crab Orchard Review, High Desert Journal, The Midwest Quarterly, Southern Poetry Review, and Willow Springs, in the anthology Good Poems for Hard Times, and on NPR’s The Writer’s Almanac.  He received the 2001 Robert Phillips Poetry Chapbook Prize for More Space Than Anyone Can Stand, and has been awarded fellowships from the Nevada Arts Council, Sierra Arts Foundation, and the National Endowment for the Arts. 

Notter is from Holyoke, in Northeastern Colorado.  He earned an MFA in creative writing from the University of Arkansas and a BA from the University of Evansville. He spent three summers as an interpretive guide on Wyoming’s Bighorn National Forest, and has taught writing at the University of Nevada, Reno and Grand Valley State University in Michigan.  He currently lives in Virginia.
