Michael Adams
Michael Adams grew up in a steel town near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He has a Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology and a Master’s degree in planning, both from the University of Pittsburgh. He attended the Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics at Naropa University in 1988. His latest book is Steel Valley (Lummox pres 2010). He is the author of five earlier books of poetry and essays, including Whistleblowers (Turkey Buzzard Press 2009), Broken Hand Peak (Turkey Buzzard Press, 2008) Underground (Longhand Press, 2007) and Between Heaven and Earth (Elik Press, 2004). Whistleblowers and Underground are collaborations with the poets James Taylor III and Phil Woods. These three poets perform together as the Free Radical Railroad. Michael is the winner of the 2007 Mark Fischer Poetry Prize, awarded by the Telluride Writers Guild. He does workshops with Art From Ashes, a Denver-based non-profit dedicated to empowering struggling youth through creative programs. He is also a member of The Romero Troupe – a community theater troupe based in Denver. Michael lives in Lafayette, CO with his wife, Claire.
